PRofessionalism 101

Often times we forget that the person sitting right next to us may be the person who’s going to hire you or refer you to an open position. I say this figuratively. This person (or company) could be following your social media, sitting in on a meeting with you or it could even be a returning customer at your job. It’s important that you maintain professionalism at all times, yet still be yourself. Here are some simple DO’s and DON’Ts that will help you maintain professionalism day-to-day and turn you in to a networking PRo.


  • Smile often
  • Maintain a positive attitude
  • Dress appropriately
  • Engage in a conversation that shows your personality
  • Make eye-contact
  • Share positive stories about companies/people


  • Curse often
  • Complain about everything
  • Wear clothes that don’t fit you
  • Be silent or phoney
  • Avoid eye-contact
  • Share negative stories about others

  1. Thanks for posting this! I agree with Kelsie McLeod that there are people in the PR world that need to hear this. I love your tip to not complain about everything. Things will go wrong, that is the nature of the job and being negative about the situation will only make it worse.
